Deviant Dale’s IPA
by Oskar Blues Brewery (brewery website)
Origin: Colorado, USA – Type: India Pale Ale – Alcohol: 8%
The beer: Oskar Blues Brewery are one of my favourite breweries in the world and this IPA is one of my favourite IPAs ever, which is a big deal when you consider that pretty much every brewery makes their own version. My Untappd App informs me that I have had 123 different types of IPAs (as of 3rd February 2015), so my palette is well versed in this style of beer.
Deviant Dale’s gives a huge powerful hop hit upfront with complex orange citrusy flavours, piney and resiny notes followed by a bitter punch line (it has 85 IBUs). This last all the way to the after-taste where the mixture of hops linger in your mouth, urging you take another big sip.
It has an almost creamy but still boozy mouthfeel and the 8% ABV only further pulsates the liveliness of this beer.
The aroma is also fantastic giving you a good indication that this was dry hopped extensively!
The little extra: Deviant Dale’s is hopped 4 times during it’s brewing process and then dry hopped further with Columbus hops – no wonder this is a hop sensation!
Where we bought it: Bottledog King’s Cross (69 Gray’s Inn Road, London WC1X 8TR)
