Maryensztadt Brewery
While attending the last Mondial de la Bière in Paris (June 29th – July 1st 2018), we had the chance to meet many different brewers coming from Italy, Spain, Denmark, Ireland and, as for Maryensztadt Brewery, Poland (website). A good occasion to get to know about what’s going on out there in the world of beer!
Maryensztadt Brewery (Browar Maryensztadt in Polish) was a real surprise for us. It was the first time we had the chance to discover great beers brewed in Poland, with a choice of nearly 20 different beers, including Weizen, Pilsner or APA and Stout styles choose from. But the brewery does not stop there; they also brew experimental beers like Imperial/Double versions of: IPA, Stouts, Porters or Sour beers.
The chance was given to us to taste a short selection of Maryensztadt beers :
- Sweet Sixteen, Milk Stout: Brewed with Marynka hops; coffee and chocolate dominates in the aroma. The addition of oatmeal makes this beer smooth and creamy. The finish is nutty and caramel.
- Raisa Russian Imperial Stout: Made with Belgian hops and Dutch malts, you can taste the chocolate directly. Cocoa dominates the palate with a nice bitterness and a dry finish.
- Gwiazda Polnocy Imperial Smoked Plum & Fig Baltic Porter: Imperial style porter with smoked malt, very smoky nose and slightly sweet. Very disconcerting in the taste as it’s between a sour and a porter. Very nice discovery!
- Project 30 wee Heavy Laphroaig Whisky Barrel Aged: very complex beer aged in Laphroaig barrels with smoky and peated aromas enlivened by a caramel and nutty taste.
